Frequently
Asked Questions
Why should I get my training from the Texins Dive Club?
Our Dive Club is designed for you, the student. Our staff of 100% volunteers donates their time and expertise to assure the highest quality of training available. We have a low student to professional ratio and we strive to meet your needs whenever possible.
What if I’m not sure about learning to dive?
Just sign up for our Free Discover Scuba class and we’ll put you in the pool with a certified Instructor or Divemaster. You’ll get to try out SCUBA gear and discuss any questions or concerns you may have about diving.
How do I register for a class?
Send an e-mail to our Training Registrar to reserve a spot. Formal registration takes place on the first night of class where full payment is due – either in cash or by personal check (no credit cards). Check the Training link on our web site – www.texinsdiveclub.com – for more information about the classes we offer.
How does certification work?
Most classes follow a similar format. You will receive a textbook and video at registration and will review these prior to each class session. During the classroom segment (during the scheduled dates), the Instructor will briefly review the material, you will take a quiz, and there will be a final exam at the end of the course. Pool segments will focus on teaching the skills learned in the classroom. The Instructors and Divemasters will work with closely with each student to insure that each skill is understood and performed correctly. At the lake check-out, students will be required to demonstrate the skills they have learned, and will be offered short tours of the underwater environment.
Should I purchase all my diving gear before coming to an
Open Water class?
NO! During the class registration session, the Instructor will review the equipment you will need for the class and provide suggestions and recommendations on what you will need. You will then need to purchase your personal gear before the following class. For the beginning open water class, each student will be required to purchase their own mask, snorkel, fins, booties, and a simple dive bag.
What Certification Agencies are used for the training?
We provide Open Water and Advanced Open Water certifications through the well-known PADI and NAUI training organizations. Specialty courses are offered through a variety of training organizations and we try to pick the best agency for each type of training to insure that our students get the most for their money.

How is diving in
Diving in area lakes varies with season and weather changes and visibility can vary from 30 feet to just a few inches. Some lakes provide dedicated diving areas with underwater items to explore. This is not blue water diving but if you want to work on your skills and comfort in the water then the lakes offer a nearby option to blow bubbles. Our training staff and members are always willing to make suggestions so feel free to ask their opinions about local diving options.
