Broken Bow Lake – Carson Creek Campground

The town, Broken Bow, is located in far southeastern Oklahoma where HI 259, running north/south, meets HI 70, running east/west.  The lake is 9 miles north of the town on HI 259. 

The Carson Creek Campground is located just north of Stephen’s Gap on HI 259.   The campsites are unreserved and provided at a first come, first serve basis. The suggested places to camp are:

QUAIL or TURKEY – RV Camping - $16                  HAWK – Primitive Camping - $8

There are 2 other primitive camping areas within Carson Creek, but Hawk is the closest to the RV Camping sites.  In addition, there are other campsites available in Stephen Gap.  For more information, call Hochatown State Park (Carson Creek Recreational Area)  at 580-494-6452

The evening meal on Saturday will be Chili & Cornbread.  Toppings will include onions, cheese, sour cream for the chili and honey butter for the cornbread.  For those who sampled the chili last year, you know this has a real bite to it.  The meal will be served at the shelter by the Quail Camping area and will be scheduled around the training activities.

Directions:  Take I-75 north to Durrant, OK;  Turn East on HI-70 to HI-259.  Follow HI-70/HI-259 north to the town of Broken Bow.  Stay on HI-259, traveling north 9 miles til you reach the lake.  The turnoff for Carson Creek is just north of the Stephen Gap’s turnoff.

 

 


Broken Bow Lake is located in one of the state's most beautiful settings.  The 22-mile long lake lies in the Ouachita Mountains of McCurtain County in southeastern OklahomaBeavers Bend State Park, located along the Mountain Fork River just below the dam, provides cabins and may other recreational facilities.    The lake's crystal clear waters provide one of the best year-round fishing sports in Oklahoma.
